Want to gain experience working with underprivileged children?
Then you should take a look at Camp Allegheny
Camp Allegheny offers low-cost camping opportunities to children living in Western Pennsylvania. Our goal is to give them an unforgettable week in a safe, Christian environment.
Working at Camp Allegheny will demand everything you’ve got — your time, your attention, your prayers. Our campers can be challenging. You will be stretched beyond your expectations physically, emotionally and spiritually. The bottom line, however, is that we serve children who desperately need to experience love and acceptance from adults, peers, and God. They need someone who will not give up on them.
Will it be you?
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Staffing Needs
Counseling
Senior and Junior Counselors, Music Conserv. Counselors
Without a doubt the most challenging (and most rewarding) position on camp, counselors live and work directly with campers. Counselors are essentially parents to a small group of children for their week at camp. If you want to learn how to effectively lead campers, this job is for you. (AGES 17+)
Program
Program Specialists and Waterfront Staff
Program staff gain a broader understanding of the operation of camp. They work with campers, but for limited time periods. Program staff teach or oversee our program areas and assist with evening programs and camp-outs. (AGES 18+)
Support
Infirmary, Staff Center, Office and Dining Hall, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Maintenance
Definitely the backbone of camp, support staff keep us safe and healthy (physically, mentally, & spiritually). If you are looking for a ministry at camp, but prefer to work behind the scenes, support positions may be for you.
Leadership
Village Leader, Assistant Village Leader, Camper Consultant, Junior Staff Coordinator
The main role of leadership is to equip staff to carry out the mission through teaching and coaching, modeling desired behavior, and overseeing the implementation of the camp program. Past camp experience and maturity is a must. A great job for learning effective supervision. (AGES 19+)
All positions are paid.
Staff Profile
We have a diverse staff, both culturally and denominationally. We hire up to 140 seasonal staff members. Roughly 20% percent of our staff are international while 10% are from states other than Pennsylvania. Although many of our staff are Salvationists, we always hire across church lines. Our concern is simply that each person have a growing relationship with Christ and a desire to share what they know with children.
Camp Allegheny revolves around the camper. To serve them effectively, we need a healthy, happy, and spiritually strong staff.
We are intentional at Camp Allegheny about taking care of our staff.
To help ensure staff members are at their best, we are intentional about including programs each week especially for the staff. Some of the “perks” we offer include weekly Bible studies and worship services, a comfortable staff center for hanging out with nightly snacks, free laundry service, and internet access. We even give four free t-shirts!
